Café Presidente: A Cup That Also Opens New Opportunities

Here, coffee doesn't end when the cup is empty. At Café Presidente, every order is part of a project that seeks to turn work, training, and customer service into tools for starting a new chapter. Its initiative is linked to Plan Libertad, a program through which individuals who have completed a period of incarceration can gain hands-on experience in areas like barista skills, customer service, and management. One of its most distinctive locations is Café Presidente El Monasterio, opened in September 2026 near the Palacio de Las Garzas. The venue occupies a structure dating back to 1743, historically connected to the Society of Jesus and likely used as a former Jesuit convent. Its restoration breathed new life into a property with nearly three centuries of history.

Coffee, heritage, and a second chance

The project aims to help participants learn a trade while gaining real-world work experience. In this way, coffee becomes a meeting point between visitors and individuals building new career opportunities after leaving the prison system. The El Monasterio location adds another layer to the visit: stopping in for a drink also means discovering a restored historic landmark reintegrated into the city's daily life. The establishment is open to the public, welcoming both locals and travelers alike.

Café Presidente offers something truly special: sitting down over a cup of coffee while an ancient building reclaims its purpose and people begin building theirs.
