Ginger Cat Books: A Bookstore Where Books Never Stay Put
There are books that come into your hands by chance and end up staying with you for years. Ginger Cat Books seems built precisely for those encounters. Hidden inside Galería Solar, this small bookstore and community library gathers pre-loved titles, mainly in English, around a simple idea: books deserve to keep circulating, finding new readers, and collecting new stories. The project was born out of a very practical reality. Finding English-language books in Panama can be difficult and often expensive. That is why Ginger Cat Books set out to create a space where reading doesn't necessarily depend on buying a brand-new copy every time.
Come for a book, stay for the community
Here, you can lose yourself among contemporary novels, thrillers, classics, and carefully curated secondhand titles—many of them waiting for that second chance only another reader can give. There is also an ongoing effort to expand the collection with books in Spanish, French, and Italian. But what truly sets Ginger Cat Books apart is its membership-based library system. Readers can borrow books and return them so they continue their journey, while those who fall in love with a particular title can also find copies available for purchase.
Behind the project is author Suzanne Hope, who has transformed the space into something much broader than a shop: a gathering place for book clubs, conversations, and events among people who share a love for literature. Its location inside Galería Solar rounds out the experience. Nestled among art, design, lush plants, and independent projects, finding a bookshelf full of stories feels almost like discovering a secret hideaway. Ginger Cat Books doesn't just invite you to pick out a book: it invites you to let a book find you, read it, make it part of your story, and then allow it to continue on its way to the next reader.
