Panama, with a Little Creative Monster Twist
Monsters was founded in 2015 by designer Estefanía Rivera, initially as a marketplace that brought together dozens of local and international brands. Over time, the concept evolved. Instead of simply selling other people’s designs, the brand began creating its own, inspired by Panamanian identity and the strength of women. In January 2023, Monsters opened its first store in Casco Antiguo. Today, its space on Calle 4a Oeste is shared with Rako, turning a shopping stop into a colorful burst of local design.
When a Raspao Becomes an Accessory
Here, Panama shows up where you least expect it. A raspao can end up illustrated on a scarf, while the golden frog, the guayacán tree, Chiriquí, or Contadora can become prints you actually wear. Many of the brand’s scarves feature original designs created in collaboration with illustrator Rako and are handmade. You can also find mugs, bags, shirts, and other pieces that reinterpret the country’s symbols, places, and flavors through a more playful and contemporary lens.
Monsters proves that taking a little piece of Panama home does not mean choosing the same old souvenir. Sometimes, all it takes is finding a design that makes you smile and think: “this could only have come from here.”
